History of Sufism  Origins In its early stages of development Sufism effectively referred to nothing more than the internalization of Islam. It is also short for Vasanta Panchami  an Indian festival celebrated every year on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Hindu month Magh (JanuaryFebruary), the first day of spring.
